Nox: Latin for night. The root from which all nocturnal things derive. In Roman mythology, Nox was the primordial goddess of night, born from Chaos. The mother of light, producing Aether and Day from the darkness. The origin of the nocturnal state.

Notes: what emerges from within. Observations, thoughts, secrets. Created within a particular state of consciousness. It describes the practice itself.

Notes of Nox is a creative studio and design house in London. A way of seeing and experiencing the world expressed through objects, images and atmosphere. What is revealed exists in constant tension with what is held back. Nox names an impulse, toward shadow, toward depth, toward what exists at the edges of the visible. It describes a mode of consciousness as much as an atmosphere, one in which perception sharpens, reflection deepens, and the rigid structures of the day begin to loosen. In this territory contradictions become visible. Clarity and obscurity coexist. Composure carries an undercurrent of instinct. The work lives in that tension. This is a world built chapter by chapter, each one expanding the conceptual territory of the last. Within each chapter, objects, artefacts and imagery are parallel expressions of the same idea. The world grows slowly and deliberately. There are no seasons, no urgency.

Before artificial light compressed the night into a single interval of sleep, people woke naturally in the dark, a waking described across centuries as the hour when reflection deepens and what is ordinarily inaccessible becomes clear. Notes of Nox takes its name from that state. The condition from which everything becomes possible.

At the centre is Nina Ullrich, artist and creative director. Her work moves on two registers simultaneously, the impulse toward beauty, depth and meaning, and the discipline of precise form, technical rigour and intentional construction. These two forces are inseparable. The philosophy shapes the object. The craft gives the philosophy weight. Her practice is multidisciplinary by nature, driven always by the idea, and the search for the form precise enough to carry it.
